English is quickly becoming the most useful language to learn. It is the language of business, of computers, and of science. Students that learn English as a second or third language open doors for themselves that would otherwise not be accessible. Studies show that countries that promote learning English among the population benefit from it with higher trade revenue compared to non-English promoting countries, higher contributions in the fields of science, and a better educated population on average. So the social benefits for teaching English in the education system are great. It benefits not only the student but the population as a whole.
Morocco has seen growth in many industries in the past few years. There is the growing tourism business which sees more and more English speaking tourists coming with the frequent addition of flights from English speaking countries. Students wanting to get into that industry will benefit with the ability to speak English. Also, there is a trend of English call-centers opening in Morocco as well. But the most important reason for including an English program in the curriculum is to give Moroccan students the background and skills necessary to pursue careers in science, computers, business and technology. These fields will require a basic knowledge of English for success and is the main reason it should be offered to students. English opens doors for Moroccan students allowing them to pursue careers that would otherwise be unavailable.
